A seemingly simple but deep haiku. The kigo is "summer" which evokes the sensory ambience of tiresome, summer heat. The surroundings are remote and idyllic or busy like a Varanasi bathing ghat, as one prefers to imagine. The experience is wrapped up by the cool water in the yogi's hand -- one senses his relief and deep communion with the river. In the water he observes the miniature sun, and silently acknowledges the source of these worlds. The word yogi is perfect and resonant here because it is to a yogi that this simple ritual moment could hold this special significance.
